Upsell offers — the six surfaces
Six places QSortby can suggest another product — cart, free-shipping bar, product page, thank-you page, popups and inside checkout — all fed by the same live ranking.
Ranking decides which products a shopper finds. Upsell offers decide what else goes in the bag. Both run off the same engine, which is the part worth understanding first: every offer is drawn from your live ranking, so what gets suggested is what’s actually selling and actually in stock — never a static list you have to maintain.
Open Upsell from the left menu. The hub has two tabs: Upsells (the widgets themselves) and Rules (reusable conditions that decide when a widget shows).
The six surfaces
| Widget | Where it renders | Included from |
|---|---|---|
| Cart upsell | Cart drawer + cart page | Free |
| Free-shipping progress | Cart drawer + cart page | Free |
| Frequently bought together | Product page | Starter |
| Thank-you page upsell | Order-status page, after payment | Starter |
| Popup upsell | Any page, on a trigger you choose | Pro |
| In-checkout upsell | Inside checkout, before payment | Growth · Shopify Plus only |
A widget your plan doesn’t include still appears in the catalogue, marked Not in your plan — clicking it opens the plan comparison. Nothing is hidden from you, so you can always see what a tier would add.
What every surface does the same way
- Nothing sold out. Products with no available stock are filtered out of every offer.
- Nothing already in the cart. Suggesting what a shopper has already added is the one thing an upsell must not do, so those are excluded too.
- A failed request hides the section. If anything goes wrong fetching an offer, the widget simply doesn’t render. A cart never blocks or breaks waiting for a suggestion.
- No theme code. Widgets are injected by the QSortby app embed. You choose where they sit; you don’t edit Liquid.
Creating one
- Click Create upsell and pick a widget from the catalogue.
- Give it a name — this is how you’ll tell several of the same type apart later (“Drawer offer” vs “Cart page offer”).
- You land in the editor. Every new upsell starts as a Draft: it saves and previews, but nothing renders on your storefront until you switch it on.
How many you can have
Your plan sets how many of each type you can create — Free one of each, Starter three, Pro and Growth unlimited. The cap counts drafts too, so a parked draft still uses a slot.
If you drop to a lower plan, nothing is deleted. Upsells beyond the new limit stop serving and are labelled Over plan limit in the list, keeping the ones you put at the top of the order. Upgrade again and they resume exactly as they were.
