Settings: the shop-wide switches
Excluded products, the attribution prefix, your product taxonomy, emotional keywords and the checkout Web Pixel — the handful of settings that apply everywhere at once.
Most of QSortby is configured per collection or per widget. Settings holds the few things that are shop-wide — the ones you set once and forget, and the ones worth checking when something behaves the same way everywhere.
Open Settings from the left menu.
Excluded products
The single place to keep a product out of everything. Products you pick here are dropped from every ranked feed — For You, Best Sellers, sorted collections — and from any collection the app manages automatically. They’re also dropped from every upsell surface, even if you hand-picked them in a manual list.
Use it for the items a theme needs but a shopper shouldn’t be steered toward: gift cards, samples, warranty add-ons, a placeholder product your theme depends on.
Attribution prefix
Every order QSortby influenced arrives in Shopify carrying a few hidden note attributes — the flag that says it was influenced, which surface it came from, which A/B variant, which ranking config, and the anonymous visitor id. Attribution prefix is the word those keys are built from: with the default qsortby, they read _qsortby_influenced, _qsortby_surface, and so on.
Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, up to 20 characters. Leave it blank to reset to qsortby.
Change it only if you have a reason to — another app writing the same keys, or a naming convention you have to match. The underscore prefix keeps all of them hidden from shoppers in the cart and checkout, and Attribution reads them back regardless of what you call them.
Product taxonomy
The vocabulary QSortby uses to describe your catalogue: the dimensions it groups products by — category family, attributes, lifecycle, mood, season, context — and the Shopify metafields behind them. You pick an industry during setup and QSortby builds a starting taxonomy from it, which you can refine here.
Alongside it, Product metadata shows your coverage: what share of your catalogue actually carries a category, attributes and lifecycle data. This is the number to look at when personalization feels blunt — the Favorite category affinity signal can only work on products it can describe, and low coverage means most of your catalogue is invisible to it.
Emotional keywords
The 12 emotional states are fixed. Which product fits which state is decided by a short keyword phrase per state, and those phrases are industry-specific: a “sad” fragrance is warm vanilla, a “sad” fashion item is a cozy knit. This page is where you set them.
The flow is three steps:
- Generate — AI drafts all 12 phrases from your industry.
- Edit — rewrite anything that doesn’t sound like your catalogue. This is the step that matters; a generic set produces generic tags.
- Confirm — save. Only a confirmed set is used for tagging. Drafts are ignored, so an unsaved edit changes nothing.
From then on Mood embeddings tags each product against those phrases automatically as it syncs — you never tag products one by one. Every product QSortby has embedded ends up carrying one to three states.
These keywords are what Emotional suggest and Insights both rest on. They only do anything on a plan that includes the emotional layer.
Web Pixel
A repair button, not a setting. It re-registers the QSortby Web Pixel in your shop’s Customer Events sandbox — the pixel that sees checkout, which the storefront pixel can’t reach.
Run it if checkout and post-purchase events have stopped flowing, which usually means the pixel was deleted from your Customer Events page. Without it, purchases don’t reach QSortby: sales-based ranking still works from your order webhooks, but conversion signals and purchase outcomes go quiet.
Plan
Where you see the tier you’re on and what it grants. If a feature behaves differently from what this guide describes for your tier, two things are worth checking here: whether you’re still inside your first 10 days, and whether an individual capability has been granted or withheld for your store on top of the plan.
